It's Too Bad 05:01
It's too bad What the prophets say-- Come with me or go astray. And it's too bad What the lovers say-- Something good won't last a day. You've bereft me now of such a wealth of suffering This sunshine just won't cease and it's divine. Where to go from here-- well it seems Only to be sacrificing All those bitter words that once were mine. And it's too bad What the neighbors say-- Oh you're young- you'll make mistakes. And it's too bad to see so much in black and white When life comes in so many shades of grey. Stay in this light-- How do we hold something so trite as time passing by? I'll give you mine. I'll give you mine. And it's too bad What the prophets say-- Come with me or go astray And it's too bad To see so much in black and white When life comes in so many shades of grey.

April 03:30
Four years and change ago You left us standing there Took the wind out of our sails, Took off into thin air. The years still turn-- They cheat you with their turning. I dream I'm at your funeral-- You're handing me fur coats To keep us warm through all the years We'll be here but you won't. The years still turn-- Oh that's their cruelest joke. When April comes again, I'll be dreaming of you my friend When April comes again, I'll be dreaming of you my long lost friend We'll be dreaming of you our friend

The sixteen tracks of The Colors Now: Parts 1 & 2 were recorded over the course of three years in a dozen make-shift studio spaces in seven states and three countries. The making of the album followed the contours of our move to Maine from Brooklyn, a marriage, a crazy election, the building of a house, illness and wellness, an optimistically early album release tour, and friendships enduring. These songs are testaments to the changes, losses and challenges of this time, and to the things that have held steady throughout. Thank you to all those who have helped me push and pull this thing into fruition; in particular, thanks to Chris Doyle for endless technical assistance and emotional support; to Danny Fisher-Lochhead for listening and hearing what these songs could be; to Fox Schwach, for taking this on fully, without reservation, for making things happen that we didn't know were possible, for bringing the light and the magic to this project.
